Shattered phone

“My phone shattered on the driveway.…” That would be a good start to a story that ends with “and she lived happily ever after”. Unfortunately I do not know the end to the story yet.

I do remember the stress holding the shattered phone and the splintered touch screen. I did have a very stressful day before this event. As have been most of my days since the beginning of the year… And as if a broken phone is not bad enough, one of my kids was at a new friends home. I didn’t know the address. At the school, I had just exchanged numbers with the dad and said “will call you later for the address”. A normal thing in the Netherlands, but suddenly I was not sure how I could find my son back.

It felt as the final straw. I stopped. I sat down, not sure how to go on anymore.

In hindsight I think I embraced the unfortunate occurrence and finally acknowledged I had not been happy for quite some time and I was too stressed. For some lucky reason I decided this is not a miserable event following the string of many ill-fated incidents. I decided this happening is going to be the beginning of something good.

Mindset shifting

This change of reasoning made a huge difference. It is amazing and crazy to feel what a true mindset change makes a difference in your experience of life. Suddenly I was looking forward instead of feeling all the stress. I could feel a new focus or a direction that I wanted to go.

That night I bought a new phone with a better camera than my old one. Searching for a phone case to protect it, I then came across an internet site where you could make your own cases. I started designing this sunrise image at the beach that gave me a calm and inspired feeling. I decided there are also three words at the moment that give me a peaceful focus: Curl Curl. Sunrise. Exercise. I will explain those later. These words and this image, I need to be reminded of every day. I only finished working on it deep into the night, I completely lost track of time!

Did I feel this feeling for the first time in so long because I decided it was time for a new phase? Or was it just luck? Maybe it doesn’t matter. Cherish this feeling, grap it and let it grow…!! And that is when my Instagram @Sunrisedunes account was born. I challenge myself to go use the camera. To start working with Sunrise. Exercise. Curl Curl.

My focus is now on staying in motion. Appreciate the journey. Start things just because they feel good. Not because I know where they end or what I will achieve. Just feeling! Just going on a ride…..and start observing and enjoying….
